A Minor Personal Comicking Milestone

Yesterday marked a nice little milestone for my comic The Optimist. Below is strip #102, making this particular comic venture officially longer-lasting than its three-panel predecessor, Whiskey! Tango! Foxtrot!, which ran for 101 weekly strips in 2007-2008 before I yanked it.
I know this number is pretty paltry compared to some of the cartoonists out there who create daily strips, but you know what? I’m not really interested in comparing myself to them. Forget I even brought it up. Why did I do that? SON OF A BITCH. I’ve been doing this for twenty years! I’ve released several books! MUST I CONSTANTLY BE FORCED TO PROVE MYSELF TO YOU?!? I AM A GODDAMNED PROFESSIO- Anyway, I’m very proud of this output, and I think next year is going to see some entertaining new developments. I mean, unless I keep churning out more of this easy middle-of-the-road bullshit.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the readers out there who are reading, and to remind you how important social media is to online independent endeavors like webcomics. If you’re on Facebook or Twitter or Google Plus and like a comic, share it with your friends. If you’re on StumbleUpon or Reddit or Digg, submit & upvote that shizz. If you’re on Myspace or Orkut or LinkedIn, blind yourself with a toxic aerosol spray and chew your wrists open. What I’m trying to say is, the whole social media thing really does make a difference.

Special thanks to The Valley Advocate for publishing both comics, and The Weekly Dig for publishing The Optimist, because being published makes me feel all legitimate and stuff. And because I’m over the age of thirty and appreciate Things On Paper. Plus, all of my halftones look way better in print.

I post a new rectangle of ha-ha every Tuesday. The aforementioned 203 comics (and some other junk) are all available online for free. Spread ’em around.
